Web Science: Web Standards Project (WaSP) Open Meeting
Aaron Gustafson, Craig Piercy, Kelly McCarthy, Leslie Jensen-Inman
Imagine a world where businesses can hire qualified web developers straight out of college, everyone has free access to self-directed open education and universities offer degrees in Web Science based on relevant best practices. Join us to learn how the Web Standards Project (WaSP) is building alliances with small businesses, educators and major players in the web industry to create a sustainable ecosystem. Find out how you can make the web a better place through outreach efforts in your community including:
* WaSP Small Business Outreach Project - Most small businesses don’t know (or even want to know) about the technical aspects of web standards, but they do want to know what will save them money and help them run their businesses more efficiently. Find out about tools WaSP developed for small businesses to protect themselves from bad developers and make sure they get the best websites possible.
* Open Web Education Alliance (OWEA) – This W3C incubator group is a community-led project focused on providing a better standard of web education across different levels of educational institution worldwide.
* WaSP InterACT Curriculum – This living, open curriculum is based on web standards and best practices and designed to teach web professional skills. Dig into this delicious content and use, adapt, remix and/or contribute your own content and ideas.
